Markie Mickelson is an artist living and working in Seattle, Washington. She received her BFA from Cornish College of the Arts in 2017 and has showed her work both locally and internationally. She works predominantly with acrylic paint, papercut installation, and illustration, often depicting the fluidity of bodily presence and the surreal absurdity that sometimes comes with daily life. Mickelson's work has been exhibited in Open Studio Night in Rome, Italy, the annual Platforms of Exchange shows, Robin Hud Woking in the Forist (2015), and I.D. (2016), Out of Sight (2017), and was part of a two-person show Theories, Seeings, and has work included in the pop-up group exhibit While Supplies Last (2017 - present).
In 2019, Mickelson participated in a handful of shows including curating, installing, and organizing two group exhibitions of work by Henry Art Gallery staff, in the City Grind coffee shop in the museum. She showed paintings and illustrations for Skid Row, in conjunction with PNB's Locally Sourced performances; created a gallery-wide installation for Forever Again at Seattle's Specialist Gallery; and included work for Joe Bar 100, the 100th Show Anniversary at Joe Bar Cafe, in Seattle. Currently, you can find her work in the first edition of LADY zine, a feminist publication featuring female entrepreneurs of various disciplines, and the 3rd edition of Papeachu Press, a small feminist publishing company's series of books celebrating the literary and visual art of women and non binary creators, titled Beginnings and Endings. Mickelson also has work currently on view (upon safe reopening) at The Hideout bar in Seattle.
